God Is In This

Bridge Church Family,

It is with sadness and excitement that I write this letter to you, officially informing you of my decision to step down as Lead Pastor of The Bridge Church.

Over the last bit of time God has birthed something new in not only my heart, but in the heart of my wife as well. We feel God is leading us to become missionaries on or near a college campus where we will evangelize, disciple, and mobilize students for missions around the world. We plan to do this as tentmakers, like Paul, not depending on a salary from a church. Instead we will fund this endeavor with the business my wife and her team have worked hard to build, that we believe God has graciously blessed for a time such as this.

My heart is full of gratitude for the ministry we have shared for the last twelve years. In 2006, God led Leah, myself, and one little newborn on an adventure to the Northwest to be missionaries among a people and a land we did not know. The journey over this time has been as diverse as the landscape that one finds on a flat calm body of water, contrasted against the backdrop of a grand, towering mountain. Though varied, both are equally as glorious.

What began as a dream in another man’s heart eventually became a church plant that began in a small cul-de-sac in Lake Stevens. From there we held our first public services at Sunnycrest Elementary. Then, only a year later, we merged with First Baptist Church of Snohomish. The ride was wild, fast, and sometimes furious. Thinking calmer waters were ahead, we were all surprised by the turbulent waters that arose when we had to ask our founding pastor to leave very unexpectedly. More unexpected, at least for me, was your desire for me to become your Lead Pastor. And for that I am eternally grateful.

To say that I had no idea what I was doing when I stepped into this position is the understatement of the century. But with my Bible in hand and the Holy Spirit as my guide, we began a two plus year journey through the book of Romans that matured me as a preacher and grew us closer as the body of Christ. Your patient endurance as I learned to preach the Word of God was more gracious than I ever deserved. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.

As I have grown over the years, I have seen us grow as well. We have not only grown numerically, but I believe we have grown spiritually. Not only have we sent out a group to plant a new church, but I have seen the gospel continually planted in your hearts and among one another. Your love for the body of Christ at The Bridge causes my heart to be full of joy!

There is more to be said than there is room for in this letter. For this reason, we, the staff of The Bridge Church, have produced a video to share more detail about how this process has unfolded, what lies ahead for the future, as well as details about my final Sunday with you. Please take time to watch it before our services this Sunday. You can find it below.

Thank you for loving Jesus, the body of Christ, me, and my family so well!
